Coaching Pathway

The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association and Member Associations are always looking for more Coaches right from our Mini Tykes up to our Junior A Level. There is a Coaching level for everyone! Being a Coach gives you a rewarding opportunity to positively impact a player’s life while enjoying the Fast Game on Two Feet!

Every coach, regardless of what age coaching, MUST complete the following:

  1. Create an NCCP #(If you have one already from another sport, you can use it)
  2. Criminal Record Check(If your age is 18+ and must renew every 3 years))
  3. Respect in Sport: Sask Sport Requirement

U9 & LOWER

U11 & U13

U15, U17 JUNIOR & SENIOR

· Year 1 - Initiation in Sport Course

· Year 1 - Making Headway

· Year 2 - Emergency Action Plan

· Year 2 - Rule of Two

· Year 3 - Making Ethical Decisions

· Year 1 - Rule of Two

· Year 1 - Making Headway

· Year 2 - Making Ethical Decisions

· Year 2 - Emergency Action Plan

· Year 3 - In-person Evaluation

  • The numbers 1,2 and 3 in the chart above represent the designated year that you must complete the courses listed. However, the SLA highly ENCOURAGES you to complete as many courses as possible within your first year of For U15 and higher, the in-person evaluation is recommended to leave until your 3rd year of coaching.
  • NEW coaches who choose to coach U15 and older (your 1stseason coaching) only need CMD and not CPI course. In your 2nd year, you would need CPI course completed.
  • E-learning: Once you have completed a module, you DO NOT have to repeat it.

Ex: If you take Rule of Two at the U9 you do not have to do it again at U11 and higher.

Courses:

For the other courses: Initiation in Sport Course, Rule of Two, Emergency Action Plan, Making Ethical Decision & Making Headway, you will need to login to The Locker https://thelocker.coach.ca/    go into E-learning and find the course.

Professional Development Points:

After you are CPI certified, to keep you up to date with developmental coaching. You must maintain 20 performance points in your Locker in 5-year cycle. These points can range from courses, self-evaluation reports, to coaching related other courses.

Other Bench Personnel:

Managers: Not permitted on the bench MUST NOT coach at all!

All managers must take the criminal record check

Trainers:
Any personnel that is on the bench for a trainer position must meet one of the below qualifications and is NOT permitted to Coach, unless listed as a Coach and has proper certification:
